Welcome to winter 2009-2010!

The road status map is active.  We encourage you to post observations about road conditions in your part of the island.  You may need to register to participate:

Please spread the word about this tool.  The more users we have, the more accurate it will be.

Road conditions for February 1

The new snow today has begun accumulating on roads. As the air cools this evening conditions will likely become slippery and dangerous. Please report conditions in the comments and take a moment to update your local road segment on the Road Status Map.

Road Conditions for January 27

A frontal system is approaching the south coast and there is a heavy snowfall warning up for the Metro Vancouver area. We are expecting 5-10cm of snow today. Please post any news about Bowen Island road conditions in the comments, even if the roads are clear where you are. Thanks!

In other news the Bowen Island road status tool is up and running. Visit the site to mark your road conditions and get a look at the status of roads around the island.

Road conditions January 10 & Road Status Map update

Thanks to all who have contributed over the last few weeks to share knowledge about the safety of Bowen's roads. The rains have made most roads clear now.

However it is SNOWING heavily today at higher elevations - eg Bishops Hill, Cowan Point and Sunset. And is 'sleeting up' in Queen Charlotte Heights.

Work continues on the road status tool at Bowen2020: the geomarking of road segments is nearing completion. It even includes an ability to report on the weather related status of the new ferry services downtown. See

Also please comment just on road conditions. Thanks to all who are contributing. Currently there is also a little team working on a Google maps mashup that will allow users to colour code road sections. We'll announce it here when it's ready to go.
